How to Knit a Sock Heel – Two Needles = Two Knits
You would think learning how to knit a sock heel would be easy. After all, there is only one end of the stick and all you need to know how to do is simply loop the yarn around the spool until you reach the toe and pull the end of the stick out. Easy enough, right? Well, it would be so simple if the instructions provided with your knitting project did not give you another step!
If you’re one who does not know how to read knitting instructions or does not even understand what happens when you go from working with one length of stitch to another, you may be leaving yourself open to a few problems. First off, knitting socks involves working with two needles. One needle goes into the front of the work (the round). The other needle goes down into the back of the work (the round).
To learn how to knit a heel, you have to understand that working with two needles makes the job of knitting harder. What usually happens is that you make an error when you pull one of the needles through the work. Then, you undo your work and start over again. If you happen to undo twice, you are left with two loops on your needle – one on each round of knitting. It is difficult to come up with yarn to work with when you only have one loop on the needles! Do not worry; you will be taught how to come up with the yarn to finish the heel.
